And believe it or not, recreational use of ‘open’ areas on Ft. Drum are free! All you need to do is acquire an annual Recreational Pass (available on line) and call the Sportsman Hotline and leave a message with details of when you will be on the property. What a wonderful asset to have next door! The printable ‘Angling Sites on Fort Drum’ brochure found below this description does an excellent job at describing each body of water or stream, the most common fish found there, and directions to it. Deer hunting is a whole other story! Growing up nearby I heard stories of ‘monster bucks’ being taken on Drum. The owner’s of this property confirmed those tales as they reminisced with me of past hunting adventures. These folks were avid hunters, at times spending days in the woods in some of the most remote areas of Drum where the larger deer were often found. The two major predators of deer, black bear and coyotes are numerous there as well.
